What is RCIA?
We are happy that you are interested in learning more about RCIA and the Catholic faith here at St. Mary's Church. Our goal is to be as supportive as possible on your journey.
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is the process by which non-Catholics learn about the Catholic faith and way of life. It is a spiritual formation process culminating with entry into the Catholic Church with the celebration of the Sacraments of Baptism (if not previously baptized in a Christian denomination), Confirmation, and the Eucharist.
From your perspective, RCIA is a time of discernment; an opportunity to get a basic understanding of the teachings of the Catholic Church as well as experience the spiritual side of the faith. It is a time to ask questions and determine if the Catholic faith is right for you. Each person’s faith journey is unique and there is never any pressure for you to become Catholic.
What can you expect if you are part of RCIA? You can expect that together, we will discuss, learn about and grow in our faith. This is not a time of judgement, but a time for reflection and growth. Our RCIA group will meet Wednesday nights from 7:00pm-8:00pm in our Parish center. Our primary goal, as your teachers, are to give you a safe and comfortable place to ask questions and learn about what it means to be a Catholic. While there is no set timetable it usually takes about a year for most to complete the RCIA process.
Is it worth it? We, of course, think so but only you can answer that question for yourself. For sure, you will make some wonderful new friends, have a lot of fun, greatly expand your knowledge of the bible and teachings of the Catholic Church and we think your spiritual life will grow as well.
